The collection is bonded to my daily experience of being close to wood through the senses of sight and touch and to enhance aspects of wood that are usually hidden. In the case of Pleats Vase, each vessel’s shape directly followed the natural twisting of the wood fibre inside a tree trunk. A unique, yet approachable object that invites people to touch. A brushing technique is employed to emphasise the natural twisting grain of wood and provide an almost cloth-like surface. ‘Wood Pleats’ speaks of the natural poetic beauty of wood through its multifaceted, light, and soft appearance.
